Why the Name of Prof. Otto Wichterle?
There are several reasons, one of them being the fact that since the year 1999 we have been trying to address students with real interest in math and sciences. Today, we offer special branch of studies focused on math and computer sciences. Our enthusiasm is what we share with the great chemist. Our address, especially the name of our street is another reason for choosing Wichterle´s name. The English translation of the address would be the Czechoslovak Exile Street, and it was actually in exile during the communist regime when Otto Wichterle worked and lived. True, he lived in the Czechoslovakia but the communist party tried to erase his name from the minds of our citizens. And they almost succeeded.
It is a great honour to have a name connected with this personality, a symbol of hard work, straight democratic opinions and honesty. Otto Wichterle was an example of the human spirit’s ability to survive under all circumstances during the past six years. Our goal is to educate people with firm opinions and professional knowledge.
