Live English June 2017

We at the Department of English Language always strive to provide our students with a chance to improve their language skills, as well as learn ever more about life in English-speaking countries. As part of our exciting series of talks and lectures, Live English, we had the pleasure to welcome two of our former students, Michal Kandráč and Dan Ibrahim, back in their old stomping ground. These two young men took part in the increasingly popular Erasmus university students exchange programmeand spent a considerable amount of time receiving education at University of Glasgow (Scotland) and University College Cork (Ireland), respectively. And they were kind enough to share their experience with our current students.

The talk was approximately one hour long and covered a range of topics, such as comparison of Scottish and Irish culture and customs, important personalities and cuisine, after that the audience were treated to particulars of student life in the respective countries, and the presentation was rounded off with quite a number of practical hints and points to consider in case one would like to make a decision to participate in the aforementioned Erasmus programme.
On behalf of the Secondary Grammar School of Professor Otto Wichterle, and the Department of English Language in particular, I would like to thank both Michal and Dan for taking the time and trouble to return to our school and broaden our students´ horizons and quite possibly inspire them to try and study abroad as well. Judging by feedback from our students, the talk was immensely well received, it was very informative and entertaining. And, needless to say, not a single Czech word was uttered throughout the presentation. So overall, well-done and time well-spent!
